Kindness week at DISC

Kindness week at DISC

At DISC, kindness means helping one another, treating others fairly and making everyone feel valued and included. Each year, our Kindness week offers a gentle reminder to embrace these values through the words we choose and the things we do. This year, our elementary students brought that message to life with creativity, enthusiasm and plenty of smiles.

Monday’s opening assembly set the tone with short theatre performances by Grade 4. Through familiar everyday situations, students showed the importance of lending a hand, playing fairly, expressing appreciation, offering compliments and supporting one another. Our kindness pledge wall gave everyone a chance to share what kindness meant to them. Colourful messages and drawings in English and German came together in a display that reflected our students’ ideas and promises. Children were proud to see their own contributions forming part of something they had created together.

On Tuesday, the kindness mailbox was full to the brim! Thoughtful notes made their way between students, filling the school with anticipation and excitement. The smiles as children received and opened their mail were a reminder of how much a few caring words can mean. Wednesday’s “Kindness in Action” showed those words becoming actions. Students held doors open, helped classmates with learning activities, worked cooperatively in groups and showed consideration during sports. Across classrooms and shared spaces, there were opportunities to put kindness into practice—and our students embraced them.

Thursday offered another way to express these ideas through craft. Students used their creativity to communicate messages of care and friendship, preparing pieces that some would proudly present at Friday’s celebration. The week ended with “Colours of Kindness”, as students arrived wearing colours representing the kindness they wanted to share. Some chose one colour, while others embraced several! Alongside presentations of Thursday’s crafts, this colourful finale brought our elementary community together to celebrate a memorable week.

The spirit of kindness continued into Saturday’s Sports Day, where students demonstrated fair play and encouraged one another during the games. It was a fitting continuation of the week’s message: every day gives us another chance to help, include and cheer each other on. Thank you to our students and teachers for making Kindness Week so special. May the thoughtful words, helping hands and shared smiles continue throughout the year!
